The Royal Route Linked the King’s Court to Prague Castle Before Coronations
Prague City Tourism says the Royal Route ran from the King’s Court near today’s Municipal House to Prague Castle and was travelled by Czech kings before coronation.
Historic centre, Prague

Their shared logic was ceremonial movement toward a coronation at Prague Castle.
The Royal Route is a procession through the city
Prague City Tourism describes the Royal Route as the ceremonial path from the King’s Court, near today’s Municipal House, to Prague Castle, travelled by Czech kings before coronation at St Vitus Cathedral. Its meaning therefore lies in sequence. No single street or monument is “the” route on its own.
The city becomes one long approach
From the eastern side of the historic centre, the path moves through Old Town, crosses Charles Bridge, enters Malá Strana and climbs toward the Castle. Familiar landmarks become stages in a direction of travel rather than isolated attractions. The route stitches neighbourhoods together through ceremony.
Use the route as an orientation line through Prague
Visitors often collect Prague as a list: Powder Tower, Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, Malá Strana, Castle. The Royal Route turns those places into a sequence. Walk it in the direction once taken by coronation processions and every stop has a clear before and after. The kings and crowds are gone, but the streets, slopes and connections remain, still showing how ceremonial movement was directed toward Prague Castle.
