This is SPECTRUM’s edited monthly layer, not a complete events calendar. We select events and dates that help a visitor understand the city, then link them to places, Prague Stories and tours where the context becomes physical.
At Národní třída, the events of 1939 and 1989 become visible in the same streets. Elsewhere, Prague moves from concert halls and science into Advent.

2 · Historical dates
Dates that change how Prague reads
11.11
St Martin and the beginning of winter
A Roman soldier and later saint became a symbol of generosity and seasonal change.
17.11.1939
Nazi repression of Czech students
After Jan Opletal’s funeral, the Nazis closed Czech universities and persecuted students.
17.11.1989
The Velvet Revolution begins
A student march ended in police violence on Národní třída, sparking mass protests.
3 · Seasonal Prague
What changes in the city this month
More of the city moves indoors
Design, exhibitions, concerts and cafés matter more as daylight shortens. That makes November a good month to alternate outdoor neighbourhood walks with interiors instead of trying to stay outside all day.
Dress for transitions, not averages
A warm afternoon and a cool evening can belong to the same day. Layers matter more than a generic monthly temperature number, especially if you plan a long walk or an evening tour.
Prague after dark arrives earlier
Advent lights begin to appear, but shorter days make an early evening walk useful all month.
4 · Three places worth seeing now
Places with a specific reason now
Národní třída
The 17 November commemoration connects this street directly with the events of 1989.
Wenceslas Square
A meeting point for civic memory, from the 1918 republic to the protests of 1989.
Rudolfinum
Concerts make the city’s cultural venues part of the November itinerary.

6 · Tours that make sense this month
Use the month as context, not as a sales gimmick
Communist Prague: Spies, Fear & Velvet Revolution
Follow the story of communist Prague and the road to 1989.
War, Occupation & Totalitarianism
Connect the student persecution of 1939 with the later struggle for freedom.
Ghost and Legends Tour
Short November days make Prague’s evening stories especially atmospheric.
7 · Practical notes
What to verify before you go
- For ticketed festivals, check the organizer before travelling; a monthly guide is a verified snapshot, not a live inventory system.
- For Spectrum tours, the canonical tour page and live WebMCP availability/quote are authoritative for departures, capacity and final price.
- On 17 November, verify tram diversions around Národní třída before travelling.
