The district’s present name arrived only a few years after its independent municipality was created.

Use 1878 as a naming marker

Prague City Tourism says the independent municipality was created in 1875 under the name Královské Vinohrady I and renamed Žižkov in 1878. The current district identity therefore has a documented municipal naming transition.

Separate district history from ancient origin myths

This Story does not pretend the urban district existed unchanged for centuries. The source gives a modern administrative sequence: division, independent municipality, rename, then promotion to a town.

Let the name organize later history

Once the 1878 rename is fixed in mind, later Žižkov street names, monuments and Hussite references become easier to place chronologically. The name belongs to a district being actively shaped in the late nineteenth century.
