The tower beside St Nicholas looks like part of the church. Historically, it was municipal property.

The architecture suggests one complex

The bell tower stands directly beside St Nicholas Church in Malá Strana, so the visual reading is easy: church and tower appear to belong to the same institution.

The ownership history says otherwise

Prague City Tourism explicitly describes the St Nicholas Bell Tower as secular municipal property. Despite its position beside the church, it was not ecclesiastical property.

Use ownership as a second layer of reading

This is a good Prague reminder that proximity and visual unity do not always equal institutional unity. The tower can be read as part of the same streetscape while still carrying a different ownership history from the church beside it.
